About Byron Hetzler
Byron Hetzler is an award-winning photojournalist based in Granby, Colorado. He is currently the staff photographer for the Sky-Hi News, where he has worked since 2007.
Born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa, Byron began his photographic career at the University of Iowa where he received his degree in journalism and mass communication, and worked for the award-winning newspaper, The Daily Iowan, as a photographer and photo editor.
After moving to Colorado he served as the staff photographer for Winter Park Resort, producing images for the resort's advertising and collateral materials.
Byron left his ski area position to focus on a full-time freelance photography career for nearly 10 years. During that time he worked with a variety of commercial and editorial clients, and contributed to the Associated Press, United Press International, Reuters Newspictures, and European Press Photo Agency wire services.
In 2005 he was signed as a contract photographer for US Presswire, a photo agency specializing in sports coverage. Among the events and teams Byron has covered are the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, AFC Championship game, World Cup skiing, Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rapids, college football, Winter X Games and Women’s U.S. Open.
His work has appeared in Sports Illustrated, ESPN the Magazine, People, USA Today, Ski, Skiing, Powder, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Times.
His clients have included the U.S. Ski Team Foundation, Winter Park Resort, National Sports Center for the Disabled, Colorado Tourism Board, Grand County Tourism Board, Granby Ranch, Pole Creek Golf Course, Copper Mountain Resort, Winter Park/Fraser Valley Chamber of Commerce.
